“Health care dollars should be paying for health care. I would support stronger transparency and accountability for insurers, pharmaceutical companies, pharmacy benefit managers, hospital systems, and other corporate entities that profit from health care. That means clearer pricing and ownership information, tougher scrutiny of consolidation and anti-competitive practices, addressing excessive administrative costs, and holding insurers accountable when delays and denials interfere with medically necessary care.

At the same time, accountability has to reflect scale, market power, and actual operating conditions. A small rural hospital with thin margins, workforce shortages, low patient volume, and a huge geographic service area cannot be regulated or financially squeezed as though it were a massive urban health system with far more leverage and revenue streams. Rural hospitals, clinics, EMS services, and community-based providers are often struggling just to stay open.

My goal is straightforward: patients should be able to afford care, providers should be able to deliver it, and public and private health care dollars should be going toward actual care- not excessive corporate profit, unnecessary administrative overhead, or practices that drive costs up without improving outcomes.”
