Ro believes health care in America should be affordable for every family. That means lowering the cost of prescription drugs, reducing excessive hospital and facility fees, and ensuring patients are not overcharged for routine care.

Prescription Drugs

• Introduced a bill with Senator Sanders to drastically cut the cost of prescription drugs in the United States by requiring Americans not pay more for prescriptions than people in countries like Canada, Germany and Japan. If passed, economists predict it would lower most brand name drug prices by 50%.
• Pass Medicare for All to reign in overbilling and pharmaceutical greed through oversight and consolidated negotiation power – finishing what the Inflation Reduction Act has started by allowing the government to negotiate directly to bring down costs for certain drugs.
• Went toe to toe with Big Pharma lobbyists as a member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee calling them out for jacking up prices for life saving medications and fighting government efforts to negotiate lower drug prices.
• Called out pharmacy benefit managers for overriding doctors’ recommendations to cut costs. Ro believes medical decisions should be made by doctors and patients, not middlemen prioritizing profits.

Hospital and Facility Fees

• Ro supports site neutral payment rules so hospitals cannot charge more for the same service just because it is performed in a hospital owned clinic instead of a doctor’s office.
• He also supports stronger price transparency laws so patients know the cost of care before receiving treatment.
• Ro believes Washington must also take on hospital monopolies and consolidation, which allow large health systems to buy up local clinics and raise prices for patients without improving care.

Doctor and Provider Costs

• He supports expanding primary care access, increasing the supply of doctors and health professionals, and reducing administrative burdens that drive up costs in the health system.
• Increase residency slots to help train more doctors and nurses.
• Ro also supports reforms that reduce unnecessary billing complexity and encourage value based care, ensuring providers are rewarded for improving patient outcomes rather than simply increasing the number of procedures.
