“We need to reverse the extreme healthcare cuts that Trump and MAGA Republicans passed to pay for their tax break for the ultra wealthy. Families are paying double for their same insurance. People have lost their insurance completely. But we can’t stop at just restoring those cuts. Healthcare costs have been out of hand for decades, increasing two, three times faster than wages. Nearly 100 million Americans have some form of medical debt. Our system is designed to keep patients in the dark and let companies milk as much profits as they can. We need to un-rig it. That starts with shining a light on the abuse and fixing it. Our Patients Deserve Price Tags Act goes after overbilling and forces the middlemen — the pharmacy benefit managers, third party administrators – forces them to disclose exactly what they are charging and why. Hospitals will have to publish their prices or face penalties. No more surprise billing. No more aggressive debt collectors going after patients when they didn’t even get an itemized bill for what they owe. But that’s only the first step. There’s more to come.
