Representative Valerie Gaydos has been a leading advocate for lowering the cost of health care. She is the prime sponsor of a bill on association health plans, which would allow small businesses and sole proprietors to join together to purchase health insurance with the negotiating power of a larger employer. This plan supports market-based reforms that expand access without sacrificing consumer protections. I have also sponsored and co-sponsored legislation to lower prescription-drug costs by increasing transparency, reforming pharmacy benefit managers and protecting patients’ access to local pharmacies. In 2024 House Bill 1993, a bipartisan pharmacy benefit manager reform measure became Act 77 of 2024. It strengthened state oversight of PBMs and addressed practices that can increase costs or limit patient choice, including spread pricing, patient steering and retroactive payment recoupments. I pledge to continue working on ways to lower the cost of health care.
